In 2020, one in 10 people in the U.S. experienced food insecurity. By 2022, that number rose to one in eight. Food bank partners report serving record levels of community members in 2023. While need continues to rise, tools to address that need have diminished.
“A wide range of temporary COVID-era programs made more food and disposable income available to struggling households. Nearly all of those initiatives have now ended,” said Marianne Glick, chair of the Glick Family Foundation. “We will focus on addressing the challenges of food insecurity at a neighborhood level through targeted, innovative grantmaking partnerships.”
For the eighth year, Glick Philanthropies administered the Glick Community Relief Fund – an apartment property-nominated grant program focused on increasing healthy food access, expanding accessible transportation, connecting community members to utility assistance, and prioritizing mental health support. Eighty-four Community Relief Fund grants totaling $652,500 were distributed to nonprofit organizations across the country where Gene B. Glick Company managed proprieties are located. Since 2016, over $4.7 million has been awarded to 265 nonprofit organizations through the property-nominated grant program.
