The February 2025 edition of The Indy Far East Magazine features perspectives on Black History Month, including the following from Marianne Glick, board chair of Glick Family Foundation, a charitable initiative of Glick Philanthropies.
“The Black community has always been and always will be an essential thread of our community’s vibrant tapestry. Much of the positive progress in Indianapolis and on the Far Eastside stems from the tireless efforts of Black leaders working at a grassroots level for prolonged periods.
On the Far Eastside, Senator La Keisha Jackson, Pastor James Jackson, and Kendra Nowell are a few of the many leaders helping to drive positive change in response to the community’s needs. In the broader Indianapolis community, I’ve been inspired and influenced over the years by the leadership of Fay Williams, Sam Odle, and Bill Mays.
The holistic health of our communities relies on Black community members continuing to raise awareness of inequities and injustices they’re facing, and the rest of us stepping up to listen and take action alongside them.”
